Escape to Death Review

By Stephen Perkins

One dead girl
One broken hero
A serial murderer and a sorceress
One massive conspiracy. Who will prevail?

A transgender teen goes missing, but Charlie Starker, LA's most respected, and feared private investigator, thinks the girl may have been murdered
by a sorceress disguised as America's favorite daytime television hostess. As Hollywood descends into homicidal madness, Starker bravely stares down the demons swarming around him. But, will he ever be able to face those raging within?
When a mad scientist unleashes his monstrous creations upon an unsuspecting world, one broken hero finds he must answer the call of duty, or die trying!

This is a story that could only come from tinsel town. With a tale of opulence and power, it would have to be full of backstabbing and name calling. The story centers on several random characters who eventually come together at different times and different ways. There is the reigning queen of daytime television and the former cast aside queen who wants the throne back. Then there’s the first female President of the United States and the Senator who wants to replace her. And finally, you have an out of control scientist and the monsters he creates. Of course there’s a few others woven into the fray too.

At first I didn’t know how the different characters were going to meld together. They were all over the place as far as their introductions went. Then once things clicked for me, I was only interested in some of them, which made the story kind of drag on for me. It did open my eyes to a few political tricks that may or may not be true to form. I was suspicious before. Now even more so. Even though I wasn’t thrilled with this book, it was still a satisfying read. I like this author’s writing style.

Halloween is Murder Tour and Giveaway

Beware of all that goes bump in the night…

Sean and Sara McKinley are excited about the haunted house they’ve set up as a Halloween charity fund-raiser, but things take a ghoulish turn when the reporter covering their story is found dead. With the media keeping mum about how she died, Sara’s curiosity is piqued, and she convinces Sean to take on the investigation through their PI firm.

But this case is not without its challenges. The police are actively investigating it, as well, and it’s not even clear that the woman was murdered. It will take a little cloak-and-dagger, dress-up, and finesse for the McKinleys to get to the bottom of it, but they aren’t the kind to give up.

As they troll for leads and work through the skeletons in the reporter’s closet, they unearth a few suspects, but they’ll need to carve out the whole truth if they’re going to find her killer. If they do so fast enough, there might even be time for a little trick-or-treating.

Sean and Sara McKinley met with Cloe Parsons, a reporter, to do an interview for coverage of their haunted house charity event. The interview and taping went well, but the next day instead of seeing their expose on the tv, they discover that Chloe had died. With all the secretiveness going on, Sara suspects that Chloe was murdered, and she won’t give up until she finds out the truth.

I loved this couple. This was the first book that I have read of the McKinley mysteries, but not the first for this author. Each of Carolyn Arnold’s series’ have been good, with interesting characters and plots, and this one was as well. Even though I could tell there was plenty of back story that I did not know, I didn’t feel lost. It easily stood on its own. It did make me interested in going back to the beginning of the series though. It’s well worth the read.

I Will Find Her Review

I Will Find Her (Bitter End Book 1)

By Thomas Apostle

I Will Find Her (Bitter End Book 1) by [Apostle, Thomas]
“Amazing, Disturbing, Haunting. This is a book that I won’t easily or soon forget with its dark and gripping tale of life and death.” Indie Book Reviewers

Thomas Benson knows he will die in exactly twelve hours. He believes his death will reunite him with his wife, Julie, who died six years ago. Back then, as Julie’s last dying breath left her lips, Thomas promised her he would find her soul on the other side and they would live together forever. A moment later, he made a second promise, a promise to commit murder. That promise drives this gripping story of love, obsession, deceit and murder to a heart stopping revelation.

.Thomas Benson must tell his story before circumstances push him closer to insanity. His painful testimony of remarkable passion, devotion and brutal retribution must be heard even if from a prison cell on death row. Convicted of capital murder, Thomas will be executed in twelve hours. He believes his death will begin the desperate journey to keep his first promise to find the soul of his deceased wife. But he discovers his last hours are complicated by fear, lust, greed, revenge and his second promise.
With just hours separating him from his deceased wife, Thomas Benson’s gut twisting struggle to reunite their souls and live on together is about to begin. A struggle that leads to a bizarre end no one could see coming. Thomas needs to know what it feels like to die because he does not like surprises. He’s about to get a big one. You must read his story to share the incredible experience.

The cover of this book bills it as a psycho thriller. I took that to mean psychotic, but after reading it, it’s obvious that it means psychological. Thomas is a man facing his last twenty-four hours on death row for a murder he may or may not have done. He has been on death row for the past five years, waiting patiently for his execution to happen, so he can be reunited with his wife in the afterlife. At least that’s what he believes. But now with his final hours ticking down, he feels he must tell his story one last time, even if his only audience happens to be a mouse.

This book was so interesting and intriguing that I had to read through it nonstop. The author is a true storyteller. He really knows how to catch your attention from the start and carry it through to the end. It was inspiring the way he could work key points into the story at the right time to give the most shock value possible. That amazed me. Plus the fact that the entire story fit into a twenty-four hour period with Thomas conversing with a mouse. Also shocking to me was the way the events unfolded with such an unexpected ending.
